Resilience Is Our Nature: Honoring Endangered Plants on Canvas
Susan Harrington, artist
Susan Harrington, a full-time artist in the Portland area, will share her current work and process spanning the simple joy of being present in nature, to the creation of what she refers to as “plant portraits”. Susan’s oil paintings are a commentary about the endangered and native species of plants in the western United States threatened by urban expansion, agriculture development, wildfire and climate change.
Also joining in the Program, will be members of PSU and NPSO’s Citizens for Rare Plants Watch, with an update on the successes of ORBIC and CRPW in 2025, aspirations and plans for a name change in 2026.
Additional Waterstone Artist Talk with Susan: May 17th
Throughout May, Susan will be presenting a solo exhibition of her paintings at Waterstone Gallery in Portland’s Pearl District titled Resilience Is Our Nature. The exhibition centers on endangered native plants and draws parallels between botanical resilience and our shared human experience in an era of environmental and social change. On Sunday, May 17, 2026, Susan will give her in person Artist Talk. We hope other NPSO members will join her and view all of her stunning and remarkable paintings in person.
