Field Trip: Bear Camp Botanical Area near Galice, OR

This Botanical Area is located halfway between Galice and Agness along the Bear Camp Road/Bear Camp Ridge area, close to 5,000’ elevation. We will be exploring the area while looking for the many unusual plants found here. The hike travels along three rarely used gravel roads with occasional side excursions. The hike will be about 5.5 miles with 650 feet elevation gain. Botanist Veva Stansell conducted extensive plant surveys in this area over many years; her fieldwork provided the basis for approval of this site as a Botanical Area as part of the 1989 Forest Plan for the Siskiyou National Forest. Veva compiled an extensive plant list for the area and left a legacy of sharing botanical joy with everyone, and we’ll continue her joyful legacy on this hike.
