Event: Newberry National Volcanic Monument Rare Plant Survey

July 18 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Saturday, July 18, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
Event: Newberry National Volcanic Monument Rare Plant Survey
Leader: Stu Garrett
Location: Newberry National Volcanic Monument

Join the High Desert Chapter of NPSO on Saturday, July 18 to visit the Newberry National Volcanic Monument and perform a census of the pumice grape-fern (Botrychium pumicola). This member of the fern family is on the rare list for the State of Oregon and is being monitored by the Deschutes National Forest. We will hike under a mile on a good trail with under 1000 feet elevation gain. We will meet to carpool at 9:00 at a pre-determined spot. Roads are fine for a Subaru or equivalent. We will return to Bend by 4:00 pm. Hiker numbers will be limited to avoid trampling. Bring a lunch and liquids. There is not much shade. Hiking boots are recommended. No pets. Trip leader will be Dr. Stu Garrett.
