Share with us! Calling for Stories from the NPSO Community

Last Updated on September 1, 2026 by Tom Pratum

Have you seen the T-shirt that says “introverted but willing to discuss native plants?”  I often recall this as I am spending time in the wild with some of my wonderful plant loving friends. This got us thinking…let’s showcase how native plants bring us together! Do you have a story or moment to share that highlights the human community we create while connecting with our plant communities? We’d like to hear about it!Maybe it’s sharing with friends you have met on NPSO plant outings, a favorite hike that you return to every year, or the delight of greeting a familiar perennial with your family in the spring. Maybe you have spent years exploring Oregon’s flora, volunteering for a conservation project, attending chapter meetings, learning from other members, or introducing someone else to the plants you love. For an upcoming Bulletin, we are looking forphotographs and short stories that show what the NPSO Community and Oregon’s native plants mean to you. In particular, we’d love to see stories and photos about sharing plants, places, and experiences with family members, children, grandchildren, friends, or people who are new to native plants.Your story doesn’t need to be remarkable or polished. A paragraph, a few sentences or even just a descriptive photo caption about a memorable outing, a favorite place, a plant that has special meaning, or an experience you shared with someone else can help illustrate the connections that make NPSO a community. What to send:· One or more photographs (optional but encouraged)
· A sentence, or short paragraph about the image
· A brief description of the photo and who took it (caption)
· Your name and chapter, if you’d like them includedPhotos don’t have to be professional. We are interested in genuine moments: people discovering plants, exploring together, learning, volunteering, or simply enjoying Oregon’s native flora. Please send your stories and images to se*******@*******on.org by September 30, 2026. By sharing them, you give NPSO permission to consider them for publication in the Bulletin and other NPSO communications.Help us show what grows when people connect with native plants—and with one another. – Outreach and Development Working Group
