Field Trip: Crack-in-the-Ground Exploratory Hike
June 14 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Saturday, June 14, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Field Trip: Crack-in-the-Ground Exploratory Hike
Leader: Jess Beauchemin
Location: Crack-in-the-Ground Trailhead, Four Craters Lava Bed WSA, BLM
Crack-in-the-Ground is a 2-mile-long volcanic fissure that is reached by a 0.25 mile walk from the trailhead. Once we reach the crack, we can walk along the upper edge, explore the nooks and crannies inside and see what plants are blooming in June. Depending on the weather and the group’s curiosity, we can poke around for a few hours or more. Moderate scrambling will be required in some portions of the crack, but any tricky spots can be bypassed above. Plant genera to see: Eriogonum, Phacelia, Erigeron, Toxicoscordion, and who knows what else?
