Founded in 1979, the Emerald Chapter of NPSO has a long history of active involvement in the study, education and conservation of our region’s native flora. Our Chapter encompasses the diverse plant habitats of Lane County; from the Pacific Ocean coastal estuaries and dunes; through the Coast Range forest and streams; across the Willamette Valley prairies and wetlands; and up and into the lava fields and alpine crests of the Cascades. Field trips to unique areas are scheduled throughout the year and are a highlight of our activities.

The Emerald Chapter holds monthly programs from September through April on a diversity of topics such as Native American ethnobotany, pollinator gardening, global warming, and fire ecology. The December meeting is a dessert potluck that offers members an opportunity to share their photos from the exciting wildflower destinations they visited that year. Programs and field trips are free and open to the public.

Stewardship, outreach, and education opportunities include field excursions to monitor rare plants on federal lands with the Emerald Volunteers Group, co-sponsorship and assistance with the annual Mt. Pisgah Arboretum Wildflower Festival with Lane Community College and University of Oregon in May, and producing and maintaining lists of Rare and Endangered Plants, Noxious Weeds, and Native Plant Nurseries.
