Field Trip: Sterling Mine Ditch Trail from Deming Gulch

Meeting Location: Walmart Supercenter at 1360 Center Drive in Medford in the SE corner
of the parking lot next to Center Drive. Alternatively, you can meet the group at the
Deming Gulch Trailhead at about 9:35 am, accessed on Bureau of Land Management Road
39-2-17 from Sterling Creek Road.
The plan is to walk the Sterling Mine ditch for about three miles north and return. There
is very little elevation gain for this hike as the trail follows the ditch. We plan on doing
some scouting of this hike to see if we can get access to the Deming Gulch fire scar.
There are a number of small roads in the area we might use. We may even move the hike
to sections of the Jack-Ash trail if our research finds a better botanizing experience. The
hike will take place at this time and at this general area no matter what exact location is
decided.
