Field Trip: Lookout Mountain Summit Area
Leader: Jess Beauchemin
Location: Motherlode Mine Trailhead, FS Road 42, Ochoco National Forest
Be prepared for a 7.1-mile hike with 1,350’ of elevation gain. The hike crosses forests and meadows with plenty of opportunities to view native wildflowers. We’ll walk at a moderate pace, stopping to observe any plants that catch the group’s attention. Pack plenty of water and lunch! Seven miles plus wildflower stops can make for a long day. Plant genera to see: Castilleja, Ipomopsis, Lewisia, Astragalus, Penstemon, Lupinus, and Veratrum. If the false hellebore meadows are blooming, we’ll be in for a real treat.
