SUMMARY:Field Trip: Restored Upland/Wetland Prairie and Oak Savanna Tour
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, June 4\, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm\nField Trip: Restored Upland/Wetland Prairie and Oak Savanna Tour\nLeader: Lynda Boyer \nLynda Boyer\, restoration biologist and native seed manager for Heritage Seedlings\, will lead a tour of one of their farms just south of Salem with 200 acres of habitat restored to its former savanna glory. There will be multiple stops to discuss a variety of restoration techniques to prepare the site for native seed and plants and to remove invasive species. We will look at areas twenty years after seeding and planting and discuss follow-up management to help the restored plant community thrive. Each fall Heritage Seedlings continue to add diversity with new plantings. The restored areas of the farm are now under a permanent Conservation Easement with the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Bring your camera\, field guide\, binoculars\, and lunch. Iron Mountain features more than 300 different species of flowers amid stands of trees and meadows. John Savage of the Willamette Valley Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Oregon will lead the all-day hike over a six-mile loop with more than a 1\,000-foot elevation gain.
