SUMMARY:Presentation: Native Buckwheats of the Siskiyou Mountains
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, November 19\, 7pm\nPresentation: Native Buckwheats of the Siskiyou Mountains\nSpeaker: Suzie Savoie\nLocation: In-person presentation at the Siskiyou chapter meeting at Southern Oregon University Science Building\, Room 161.\nJoin us in-person or Zoom in from home.  To register for Zoom\, go to https://bit.ly/npsotalks\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Siskiyou Mountains are known for their botanical diversity\, including a wide variety of native buckwheats in the genus Eriogonum. There are at least 16 species of Eriogonumthat grow in the Siskiyou Mountains\, and 26 overall Eriogonum taxa when you include varieties. Native buckwheats come in many shapes and sizes. Some species are large\, showy\, well-known and well-loved\, while others are rare and seldom seen\, or they are small annuals that are often overlooked. Native buckwheats\, found in most habitats in the Siskiyou Mountains\, play a key role in our local ecosystems and are vital for pollinator and bird species. Come learn about the incredible diversity of native buckwheats in the Siskiyou Mountains! \nSuzie Savoie is a native seed collector and co-owner of Klamath-Siskiyou Native Seeds and is a former Conservation Chair for the Siskiyou Chapter Native Plant Society of Oregon. She works on conservation issues throughout the Siskiyou Mountains\, lives off-grid below the Red Buttes Wilderness\, and loves to get into remote locations to see rare plants\, including native buckwheats.
