Forest & Wetland Wildflowers, Gahr Farm.
NPSO members Ted and Harriet Gahr manage 350 acres of meadows and seasonal wetlands for native plants, wildlife, and sustainable forest production, and especially for the endangered red-legged frog and Nelson's checkermallow (Sidalcea sp.). A herd of elk and many shorebirds visit regularly. Expect to see sessile trilliums, heritage oaks, false solomon's seal, iris, madrone and columbine (Aquilegia formosa) in the forest. At about 3 pm, the group again will take off from the farmhouse into the wetlands; rubber boots are required to cross wide streams. Expect to see Camas quamash, Veronica americana, sedges, lupine and checkermallow. You can take one or the other tour as desired. Meet in McMinnville at 1 pm at the corner of Northeast Linfield Avenue and Blaine Street, adjacent to the Linfield College campus. To reach the corner, take Highway 99W in south McMinnville and, at Jake's Deli, turn east on Linfield Avenue. For more information, call the Gahrs at 503-472-6960 or visit www.gahrfarm.com.
