The
High Desert Chapter was founded in 1979 by Stu Garrett and Joyce Bork.
Members come primarily from Crook, Deschutes, and Jefferson counties.
We have a long history of local educational and conservation activities.
During
the spring and summer (May through August) we sponsor a series of fieldtrips
to areas of botanical and general ecological interest. Recent
trips have highlighted rare plants, fire ecology, old growth pine ecosystems,
geothermal energy issues, and alpine wildflower displays.
In
the winter (Jan to April) we have a series of slide shows, educational
presentations, and meetings on the 4th Tuesday of the month at 7:30pm
at the Central Oregon Environmental Center, 16 NW Kansas St., Bend.
Local experts share their knowledge on a variety of topics.
Full
information about our chapter and its activities is available in the
NPSO rack at the Environmental Center in Bend or see the High
Desert Section on the NPSO Calendar page.
